What exactly is happening?
2023 — Conversation
ChatGPT was mostly a conversational chatbot. Surprisingly, it could also write code. I remember building an application in one night in 2023. I was recently surprised to discover that people were still using it. We have now migrated it to GPT-5 mini.
2024 — Reasoning
We got excited about reasoning. LLMs could understand a problem, decide which tools to call, and take the next step.
2025 — Delegation
Then came Claude Code, Codex, and the OpenClaw moment. We slowly stopped looking at every line of code. We started delegating the work to agents.
Our job became figuring out what to build and reviewing what came back. That is when people started saying that “taste” is what matters.
2026 — Business processes
Now the real shift is beginning. We are starting to delegate business processes—not just coding tasks.
This shift will be harder. It will require us to think differently about how work is defined, delegated, reviewed, and governed.
The questions are simple.
- Do we understand the shift?
- Do we agree that it is happening?
- Are we ready to think differently?
- How much agency or autonomy are we prepared to give AI?
The harder question is whether our ways of working can keep up.
